Are There Any Good Points to smoking pot?

2009.04.02

There are many misconceptions about the use of cannabis. Smoking a joint may not be as bad for you as some people think. Though obviously smoking anything is bad for your lungs but the actual effects of prolonged marijuana use has not been proven to cause severe medical problems. If you compared the effects of alcohol on your body, which can affect the liver, your brain and many other body functions marijuana doesn’t seem that bad.
North America has been a lot less open about the medicinal aspects of a drug such as this which has been used thousands of years in many countries around the world. Tests have been done elsewhere and seem to support the benefits of marijuana use in small quantities.
Studies, books and journals have been written describing the effects of smoking pot and what it can do to your body. Not all the answers are in yet but the general feeling throughout the medical society is that weed is unlikely to cause serious problems for most smokers.
Most smokers find having a joint puts them in a relaxed state, reduces stress levels and gives a general feeling of euphoria. There has never been case proven to show marijuana use leads to any type of violence unless someone steals your chips when you have the munchies (ha ha.)
Cannabis has been proven to alleviate nausea and is prescribed by doctors to cancer patients to combat the effects of chemotherapy as well as radiation. In addition, people with eye problems such as Glaucoma have seen significant improvements from smoking pot.
No one has ever proven that anyone has ever died of an overdose of pot compared to over 5000 deaths per year from alcohol abuse, which is sold legally. Doesn’t make a lot of sense does it? You would have to smoke a lot of grass to overdose and so far nobody has smoked that much. Cannabinoids is the chemical in weed that gives the desired affects and the ratio is 40,000:1 to make somebody susceptible to an overdose. Yet drinking booze with a ratio of from 4:1 to 10:1 is far more deadly but ironically, enough is still legal.
Many people have the misconception that smoking pot can lead to brain damage but thus far, no scientific evidence has proven this. Alcohol has toxins that destroys brain cells as well as many other functions of the body but again is still sold legally, go figure!
In fact, two studies were written in 1977 supporting the legalizing of cannabis.
When you smoke a joint the certain activities in your brain are increased, which can not only relax you but also open the door to a more creative side that may not be present in absence of this particular drug.
Sometimes when you smoke marijuana  you may have the tendency to forget things but generally it’s only when you have the buzz. The long-term effects on your memory have been shown to last from 6 to 12 weeks once you stop smoking and have no residual problems after.
