CANNABIS HIT?S THE MOVIES

2009.04.02

There has always been controversy as to the inference to cannabis in the lyrics of music. Naturally it creates mixed emotions. Anti cannabis people say it shouldn’t be allowed as it influences the young people. Pro pot advocates say it doesn’t influence them anymore than any other reference to the marijuana would.

Those that have seen the movies advocated as being all about the weed, dub them as stoner movies. Makes for a good name when you consider the effects from hash, pot or any other form of cannabis gives you a “stoned” euphoria.

Perhaps when watching one of these stoner movies it would be difficult for the non-informed grass user to grasp the concept behind it or the actual story line. For the most part the story most often just centers around two friends who enjoy the euphoria of the weed but something always gets in the way of being able to perform what would seem like such a simple but pleasant task, at least to some.

Depending on who the main characters of the movie were determined the impact of the movie itself. Some are all but long forgotten which others are still being talked about.

Cheech and Chong have to be one of the most favored duos of the movie-making era. Although they are considered the original stories of the movie scene, their talent far supercedes any of the negativity that is associated with cannabis. One should never think that it was just one or two successful movies that gave them claim to fame in the stoner movie segment. This pair actually starred in ten movies in total all related to their beloved past time, being pot. Well known for their humor it is evident throughout any production they made. Although some may say that it’s a clear indication of downplaying the negative effects of marijuana, many others do not see it that way. In fact, many anti cannabis users really found no harm in the movies themselves.

Many people are under the impression that the real crux of the whole cannabis issue has only been in the last few years. It would just seem like it popped up out of nowhere. The reality is cannabis in all of its forms has been around for a good many years.

If you had seen the popular movie, “Up in Smoke” there have been two opinions on this movie. It was produced in 1978 and some say it has no relation to pot, whereas others say all the conations of it being a stoner movie are evident.

Other movies that are to be put under the umbrella of stoner movies whether clearly so or suspected of such are, Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure filmed in 1989.

Others favor “Where’s My Car” or “How High”. Just as cannabis is around for a long time to come as history as proven it’s unlikely that there won’t be more stoner movies coming in the future.
