 Cannabis strains are described as hybrids or pure breeds of few different forms of cannabis although they are more related to the cannabis subspecies of cannabis such as the Sativa or the Indica.  The reason for developing different strains is for marketing purposes either by differentiating them or by growing them differently according to the customer requirements so as to earn maximum profits.

Strains are named differently by their breeders or growers so as to differentiate them from one another and also because of legality issues over strain names copyrights.

Any cannabis breeder or grower when growing a cannabis plant or harvesting it may find it to be somewhat different from those found in the market and then he would try to produce or genetically clone that unique cannabis specie and distribute it in the market giving it a completely new name. For instance, the White Widow strains seem to be 60% Indica and 40% sativa cloned. These white widow strains seem to carry both their parents’ negative as well as positive properties.

 The Sativa is a much taller and thinner marijuana strain than the Indica and reaches heights of 4.5 meters and is made up of long internodes and branches and large narrow braided lighter shaded green leaves. Sativa take a long time to grow and fully bloom. They are more suited to growing outdoors as they require more light. They have lower CBD than Indica strains though a higher THC which provides the smoker or the consumer with a more energetic and clear-headed high feeling. These sativa strains are mostly found in Colombia, Mexico, Thailand and South-east Asia. On the other hand, the Indica strain is somewhat shorter and bushier having much wider leaves as compared to the sativa strain and are mostly grown indoors rather than outdoors. These strains typically grow faster than the Sativa strains and produce a higher yield. They have a higher CBD and a lower THC and their consumer or smoker gets into a very heavy sleep induced state. This Cannabis Indica is mostly found in Afghanistan, Morocco and Tibet.

Other major types of cannabis strain seeds include the Kiwiseeds, Dampkring Classics, DNA Genetics, THseeds, Big Bhudda seeds, Ceres seeds, Soma seeds, Serious seeds, Sensi seeds, Mr Nice, Magus Genetics, Barneys farm seeds, Paradise seeds, Reeferman seeds, Delta-9 labs, Dutch passions, Greenhouse, Mellowgold seeds, Enterpise seeds and Spliff seeds.

Other lesser known cannabis strains include the Cannabis Ruderalis which is a much lesser known marijuana strain and is wild sub-specie of the cannabis. This strains flowers more and more as it gets older with the age and not on how well it is bred. They have no medical properties at all and are just used for enjoying a pleasant smoke. These strains are more usually found in Russia, Poland and the Czech Republic. Then there are the Cannabis Hybrids which are cross breeds and do have some medical marijuana properties. It is an Indica and sativa strains mix and is grown worldwide.
