Hashish

2009.04.26

Hashish literally means ‘grass’. The word hash derived from the Arabic word, hash, which also means to become dry. Hashish is a process of making cannabis. Literally it is the meaning of preparation of cannabis, which is composed of the trichomes, which are collected from the plant of cannabis. Hash contains higher concentrations and very active ingredients. This is seen at higher level as the concentrations and the ingredients are greater than the other parts or locations of the cannabis’ plant, and this includes the leaves and the buds.

Psychoactive effects of hashish

The psychoactive effects are similar and comparatively same like the preparation of marijuana or cannabis. However, some people believe that the effects of hashish are somewhat (or totally) different. If observed deeply, then the effects are same and are just like marijuana. The consumption, however, differs but the effects are not at all. Research clearly demonstrates that hashish has the potential to cause problems in daily life or make a person’s existing problems worse. In one study, heavy marijuana abusers reported that the drug impaired several important measures of life achievement including physical and mental health, cognitive abilities, social life, and career status.

Difference:

The difference comes only from regions as the stem and flavor of these drugs differ from region to region. The cannabis specimens generally have different effects on different types of people. And again, this differs from region to region.

Form:

The form of hashish could be anything depending upon its nature or the making process. However, it is seen that the hashish’s form is in solid. At times, it could be paste like substance too. This varies its hardness and softness. When you heat hashish, it becomes soft after melting. Under heat, hash does not lose its essence, but it is said that it becomes more and more stonger. The more you heat, the more stronger it becomes. The color of hashish also varies. Generally, the hash comes in green, reddish brown, reddish, deep red, scarlet, black, and the most common and well known color is dark brown and light brown. Some species also produce orange, but it is rare.

The consumption of hash

Hash is consumed just like the way a person consumes the buds of cannabis. Consumption methods do vary from smoking to inhaling. The following are some of the ways where a person can consume hash.

1)      Miniature smoking pipe

2)      Bong

3)      Hot knifed

4)      Bubbler

5)      Hookah or sheesha (in India)

However, the above are some of the ways. Generally, hash is also consumed by mixing its joints known as blunts. The hash can be mixed with tobacco, herbs, and other related cannabis buds. In earlier times, people used to chew hash and get high. Times have changed and the consumption methods also have changed. However, some still follow the same age-old methods.
