IS IT MARIJUANA OR ANXIETY
2009.04.03
Much has been said about the effects of marijuana, pot, cannabis, or what ever, and either for or against. Some argue that it is therapeutic and has been of enormous help, better than the alternatives prescribed by the medical profession. Then there are the ones that use it to relax and say there is nothing like it for easing the tensions that result from the daily grind. In fact they say it’s better and less harmful than alcohol.
There are also others who have used it and find that it causes a lot of anxiety and that it is harmful to them to such a degree that it has almost ruined their lives because of the combination of marijuana and certain stresses. These people say that when they took it as a younger person, it was wonderful and made them relax and laugh, but when its use was continued into adulthood, it combined with the stress factors of the everyday grind to produce quite the opposite effect, namely anxiety and panic attacks, that last long after using it.
Many wonder if it is good or bad for you, and wonder if all the talk about its being a wonderful relaxant is all just false hype. The answer is, that it can be both, it all depends on your chemistry. For some, pot works wonders, allowing them to relax, but for some others, it has been known to produce anxiety and then prolonged panic attacks that last and last.
Actually, to say that weed causes the panic attacks is false, it doesn’t cause them, but when it woks in combination with your chemistry, it changes how you feel according to what type of chemistry you have. It is proven that stress produces a chemical called cortesol, which has a very negative effect on the nervous system.
If you are prone to the negative effects of stress, and let things get to you, as opposed to letting roll off, then that produces the cortesol. Then in combination with the other adversely affected chemistry in your body,it can have a devastating effect when marijuana is introduced. It will enhance whatever kind of chemistry you may have, producing either that mellow feeling or that anxiety followed by the prolonged panic attacks.
The best remedy is a natural one, diet and exercise. A food diet with a lot of fruits and vegetables will take the edge off, because they restore balance to the system, the same with exercise, which produces endorphins that result when you burn the stress hormones while exercising. If you need to get help, go on the net for different techniques that will stop the panic attacks, just choose the one best suited to you.
Therefore, the best advice is to listen to what your body tells you. If you feel bad, you can remedy the effects with proper diet and exercise, and if marijuana has a calming effect on you, just don’t overdo it!
