THOUGHTS OF A CANNABIS USER.
2009.05.08
This article is not out to give a bad name to marijuana or cannabis, but it is designed to point out that there are some people out there who can get addicted to cannabis, and there are some who are even allergic to it, like myself, so this is an attempt to help people identify the symptoms. On the other hand there are those that have no issues with it at all.
When I first tried marijuana and hash, I hated the feeling it gave me. I didn’t smoke to begin with, so inhaling the stuff used to send me into violent coughing fits, but even when I tried it as a tea or in hash brownies, it left me feeling like I was about ten feet thick, and I couldn’t function properly for days. I had no attention to anything and I couldn’t think at all. It took me over a week to get right again. These are the not the typical type of reactions but are the ones that the anti cannabis advocates center on the most.
To answer the question of whether or not marijuana is addictive there are some things to notice first. Pot can cause problems, mentally and socially, but it isn’t as bad as any of the harder drugs. Withdrawal from marijuana isn’t as bad as the other harder drugs either like crack or heroin. It has only been recently that it has been discovered that there is a definite withdrawal pattern for marijuana again in some cases not all.
If you find yourself having to smoke pot because you just don’t want to deal with things and consistently procrastinating, then you are running danger of marijuana being addictive. The best thing to do, if you want to withdraw is to first ask yourself why you started. Some start because they want to fit in, and some start because they need to escape, only finding that the escape was short lived and there was a long- term problem of uneasiness.
It’s the uneasiness that starts people thinking about what they are doing to themselves because they find that they want to be alone more so that they can smoke up on their own, to escape having to deal with life and its pressures. Many find that procrastination and marijuana go hand in hand.
Many who want tried quit are tired of the feeling of getting high, and having to do more marijuana to get that THC level attained again – the more you have in your system, the more you have to use to get that buzz again, and the effects of it can be subtle, but noticeable over time. There are many reasons for quitting, involving family fiends, or work, but it is important that you honestly identify what those reasons are if you truly want to quit.
So, the best advice I can give is communication, with yourself first, and then with others later, but only if you want to. It is important to be totally honest with yourself when asking what got you started, and next, why you want to quit. It is very essential that you don’t do this process with blame, shame, or self –punishment.
