Types of Hash

2009.04.08

As it is shown in other articles on this website, it is not to difficult to make hash at home. However, sometimes one just has no opportunity to do it and has to buy the product. In that case it is rather useful to be aware of different types of hash that vary according to the country where the product had been made. So let us make a brief overview of the most common types of hashish in the US and Europe.

First of all, the most common ways for hash making are rubbing the plant and sieving marijuana. Countries of Middle East most commonly produce sieved hash, whereas India, Pakistan and other countries of that region most commonly have rubbed hash. The reason for this is the differences with legal status – for sustainable quantities of hash large plantations of cannabis plants are required. You can easy differ one type from another. Sieved hash is light, dry and doesn't have much smell, but rubbed is dark, not so dry and the smell is pretty strong. As a rule the effects of rubbed hash are stronger and the price is higher, but that can be different in some cases. The quality of each piece does matter. And rubbed hash is more available in the US. Now let's get to the differences in hash from different countries.

Hash in Afghanistan (Afghani) is rubbed. It's dark green or brown inside and black on the outside. It induces strong smell. The effects of it are really strong and come fast. It is rather rare in the US and even less available in Europe.

Indian hash can be of different types. The fist one called Charas originates from all over the country. It's rather similar to Afghani but stronger and more potent. It's extremely rare and expensive as it's source are private travelers from the country. Another type of hash named Kashmir is more available, but it's qualities are not so good. One reason for it is that both rubbing and sieving are used and the products may be mixed together that doesn't result too well.

Hashish from Morocco is actually the most of hash of European market. Transport difficulties do not allow this hash to enter the US in large quantities. It's sieved that makes its color green. Also, the effects of this type of hash are less strong than others mentioned before. I do doubt that most of European customers do care too much – it's cheaper than others.

Another type of hash common for Europe comes from Lebanon. It is sieved, it can be yellow or red. It's effects are stronger than Moroccan hash ones, but not so high and fast as the ones of rubbed types. Nowadays mostly old Lebanon hash can be found on the market and its quality is not so good.

Of course, these are not the only types of hash available in the world. However, you are most likely to meet these. As their price can be really variable, beware and don't let the sellers fool you.
