What Is The Real Value Of Hemp Oil?

2009.05.03

Hemp comes from the plant Cannabis Sativa and has been around for thousands of years. A derivative of this plants seeds (part of the achene family of fruits) is called hemp oil and has been recognized as a beneficial and very versatile substance.

Its has a high content of the essential fatty acids (EFA) and is considered to be a super food. It’s because of this content of EFAs many people have found that if you use hemp oil as a supplement you can improve such skin conditions as acne, psoriasis and even eczema. In addition, after a few weeks use you may see thicker hair, softer skin and stronger nails.

Hemp oils contain a variety of different essential fatty acids (EFA) that offer many medicinal benefits. These EFAs are well recognized and accepted as a preventive measure and treatment of such degenerative diseases as cancer and cardiovascular disease as every cell in the body benefits from these acids . In addition, to rival even Flax seed oil and Evening Primrose oil, Hemp oil contains an EFA that is believed to alleviate the symptoms of PMT (pre menstrual tension) in some women.

Fish contains many EFAs, but many people, especially nursing mothers and pregnant women who are worried about the mercury content as well the others toxins can use Hemp oil instead of a fish supplement to keep their level of EFAs up. When storing Hemp oil always keep it in the fridge as it is sensitive to heat and light.

HEMP SEEDS
Though the oil is a derivative, eating the seeds themselves are beneficial as they not only contain many EFAs but also have a higher level of protein than soy. They are high in fiber, contain many essential amino acids and are very rich in Vitamin E, C and chlorophyll.
The Hemp plant itself is very resilient and needs no chemicals or pesticides in order to grow. With this being said the seeds have no chance of being genetically modified unlike other sources of antioxidants and proteins so you get the results far more naturally.  In addition, there are many commercial applications for the byproducts of this plant and nothing is wasted so the growing of Hemp makes for lucrative crop.

IS IT LEGAL?
Hemp has been used for thousands of years by many cultures in many different ways but in 2001 a worldwide ban on the sale of all oils and foods that were Hemp based was announced by the DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency). This didn’t last mind you for in 2004 in San Francisco the Ninth US Circuit Court Of Appeals deemed this act illegal and overturned the decision thus lifting the ban on selling Hemp products.

The name of plant Cannabis Sativa is Latin and actually means ‘useful hemp’ but because its so often associated with its psychoactive ingredient THC ( TetraHydroCannabinol ) that is found in marijuana which is illegal in most countries, there is a lot of concerns and confusion surrounding it. In actuality, there is not enough THC in the seeds or oil to normally be detected in any test or even considered above the legal level the Government has set.
