What jobs Positions Don?t Welcome Pot Users?

2009.05.03

It is becoming more and more popular for many industries and businesses to do drug testing which includes the testing for pot. If you are a marijuana smoker and you are just going after an average type job then it’s up to you whether you want to quit using it in order to get the job. Remember though many companies will even demand random drug checks periodically even after you are hired. Pot can take up to three months where it is out of your system to the point where it is no longer detectable so keep this in mind.

If on the other hand you are pursuing a career then you may want to give your recreational weed use some consideration. Any law enforcement position whether it be as a peace officer or in the administrative end of it will most likely do extensive drug screening. If there is any trace of cannabis or any other type of drug other than for medical use found in your system then you won’t even get to the next interview.

Depending on the country you live in there could be issues if you have a past drug record where you were charged and convicted. If it was prior to a certain age then it may be inconsequential.

Aside from law enforcement mostly the same rules regarding drug testing and prohibition is applicable to government jobs. Mind you don’t ask any of the Politicians if they partake in a little bit of weed once in awhile.

Companies that operate various types of machinery will not allow the use of cannabis or any of it bi products in a form, as they are concerned about the alertness of their employees not only for their own good but for the concerns regarding lawsuits as well.

Many trucking companies do random drug tests and have banned the use of pot or hash for example. Claiming that the driver may not be alert when driving therefore could be a danger to himself or others.

Multiple companies and industries have all jumped on the bandwagon of drug testing. Some are doing it out what they feel is a necessity while the odd few are doing to make themselves look prestigious.

Another factor you may want to keep in mind is if the Company that hires you has a no substance abuse policy then this will include the use of such even as a hired employee. Therefore, if your boss catches you standing on the corner smoking a joint or having a hash bag hanging out of your pocket then you could end up being called into the office the next morning and your job could be on the line.

If you have a good job and you are making it into a career then you are better off not to jeopardize it for the sake of taking a few puffs of a joint.
